Citizens United To Protect The Maurice River - Breeding Birds Walk / 5-7-25
Join CU Naturalist Bert Hixon for a spring birding adventure at Belleplain State Park! Bring your binoculars and your enthusiasm as the group embarks on a driving tour of the park, stopping at several locations to search for birds that use this space for breeding.
Whether you're an experienced birder or a beginner, Bert will guide you through the park’s diverse habitats where you'll have the chance to spot exciting species like the summer tanager, hooded warbler, Acadian flycatcher, Louisiana waterthrush, and yellow-billed cuckoo.Located just outside the Maurice River watershed, Belleplain shares many of the same ecological characteristics that make the region so important for wildlife, providing critical habitat for both local and migratory species. Exploring Belleplain offers a glimpse into the interconnected natural landscapes that support biodiversity across southern New Jersey.
Dress appropriately for the weather and wear sturdy walking shoes or boots. Biting insect season has begun. Please take appropriate precautions. Don't forget your binoculars and your picnic lunch.
After the tour, stick around and enjoy a relaxing picnic lunch in the park with fellow bird lovers.Date and Time
