Citizens United to Protect The Maurice River - CU's Big Day / 5-17-25

Join CU Maurice River for a day of birding, paddling, and community at CU Maurice River's Big Day celebration!

Start your morning with a peaceful Dawn Song bird walk along Hansey Creek Road. Led by past and present World Series of Birding members, this guided stroll begins at 7 am  and takes you through diverse habitats perfect for spotting migrating warblers and a variety of other avian species.

 At 9:30 a.m., there will be the Hansey Creek Paddle, where you can explore the serene back creeks of Delaware Bay, lined with shorebirds and wetland wildlife. Bring your kayak or canoe and life jacket to this unique experience, where you’ll get up-close views of otters, osprey, herons, and more! Don’t forget your binoculars to catch sight of all the incredible birds and animals along the way. The area, part of the greater Maurice River watershed, offers some of the most pristine and biodiverse ecosystems in the region.

The day wraps up with the Ah Why Knot Awards celebration at 4 pm.  This event, reserved for CU Maurice River members, honors dedicated volunteers and environmental stewards. and celebrates the efforts of the Shorebird Recovery Team and those who help protect Down Jersey’s natural beauty.

 Be sure to dress appropriately for the weather as all events will be out-of-doors. Wear a hat, sunscreen, and use bug spray. Don't forget to bring plenty of water and your binoculars!
