Citizens United to Protect The Maurice River - Stewardship Workshop: Soil Health & Make-N-Take Compost Bin / 5-21-25
Soil texture refers to the proportion of sand, silt, and clay in a soil. This texture influences water holding capacity, infiltration rates and drainage, and nutrient retention.
Attendees will also learn how adding organic matter in the form of compost to your soil can improve it, especially those high in clay or sand.
Following the presentation, Program Manager Kimberly Spiegel and Master Gardener Susan McKenna will lead the construction of your own starter compost bin to take home.
This event is part of CU Maurice River's Watershed Stewards Designation Program. By participating in this workshop and starting a composting practice, you will be earning points towards either Stream-Friendly or Wildlife-Friendly status.Dr. Salvatore Mangiafico of the Cumberland County Cooperative Extension Office.
